In the late 19th century, many Martini Rifles and carbines were converted into drill purpose arms for the use of Cadets and Militia. Approximately 4500 pattern 1860 Yataghan bayonets in store weres shortened and bushed for trianing purposes.

Two patterns can be encountered, a "Blunt Point" version as the main illustration, with the point softened to prevent accicental injury when in use and the "Sharp point".
