Weapon Overview

Especially made by Wilkinson, to suit the Martini Metford MKII rifles odered by Canada, Only 1001 were made of this pattern. An adaption of the 1888 sword bayonet, the blade has the pommel of the 1887 pattern sword but with wooden handgrips. The 1893 pattern sat on the regular bayonet bar of the MM MkVI, and lightened the weight of the regular 1887 sword. The bayonets are Dated 3/ '94 on the blade and usually carry M & D or RRCI markings on the crosspiece. 1000 bayonets were supplied to Canada, with one example being withheld for inspection purposes by the Inspector of Small Arms in England in January 1894. The inspection stamps on this bayonet is marked on the wooden grip W (Crown) over 49.
