Historic Martini Henry Ammunition
I couldn't resist showing some images of Martini Henry cases from some historical battlefields.
The main image is a MkIII boxer case we found, along with five others on the summit of Hlobane Moutain, site of the battle in March 1879. The firer was left handed, and the cases spilled into a small recess in the rock. He was protecting the acent of the mountain, and would have been killed within two hours of firing these.
The bullet heads were fired on 22nd Jan 1879 at Isandlwana battle, note the rifling marks in the bullet sides
The single boxer case eminates from Abu Klea battlefield, Sudan, fired in the epic battle against the Mhadist forces, Feb 1885. The Boxer cartridge case was severly criticised after this action and caused the War Office to revert to solid drawn cases immediately.
