Weapon Overview

On 29th February 1876, a general list of Change was issed to order the conversion of the Mk1 "Bulb" ended cleaning rod §2956. there were various reasons for the alteration. The early pattern rod did not fit down the bore of the rifle, as a result the bulbous end of the rod was reduced to <.448" diameter so it could be used as a ramrod to remove a stuck cartridge.

The egdes of the rod were softenened, and the LOC reads "the edge of the shoulder are rounded off so as to render it less liable to injure the grooves of the  rifle".
